Stamping is where it all began for us, I suppose you could say it was love at first sight! When you delve into the many creative possibilities it's quite staggering just how many things you can do with a stamp. Craft stamps can be used with different colour ink pads to stamp out designs that can be used alone or coloured with pens, pencils or paints. You can also stamp multiple impressions to build layered designs, to create depth or form a new shape. And these are just the basics. As you become more confident at stamping there are plenty of new techniques to try and experimenting with different ink types, craft mediums and surfaces will take your stamping and crafting to a new level.
Craft stamps were originally prepared with a wooden block base, a foam pressure layer and then the rubber stamp design. Some stamp companies continue to manufacture in this way but in more recent years technology has developed to bring us the easier to use clear stamps that we use in the UK today. Clear stamps simply 'cling' in place to an acrylic block. You can ink the stamp in the normal way but with the added benefit of being able to see right through the stamp and the block for more precise image placement. After use the stamp can be wiped clean and returned to it's packaging, ready for use time and again. Clear stamps are thinner and so take up much less storage space, they also cost less to manufacture and are therefore affordable to collect.
